She was the central figure of Module II of the "Initiation to Feminism" course (link: International Feminist School: Course of Initiation to Feminism ) for a simple reason: she was the most important woman of the first half of the 19th century; in the second half, she perhaps shares that distinction with Queen Victoria. She was a writer whose striking personality provoked praise and criticism—never indifference. This is because George Sand, much like great famous men such as Jesus Christ, Socrates, Galileo, Giordano Bruno, Napoleon, and Luther, possessed a highly charismatic nature that stirred passions on all sides—passions that were both favorable and critical.
